Automated optimization of the ship hull form with minimum resistance based on CFD

Based on CFD theory, a hull form optimization system is established in this paper with thei SIGHT multidisciplinary optimization platform,on which the hull transformation and automatic generationtechnology, CFD, and hybrid optimization algorithm are integrated. During the optimization process, thehull form transformation and generation program is specifically developed so that the hull form transforma-tion is automatically connected to SHIPFLOW. The Generic Algorithm-Sequential Quadratic Programmingcombined with the second order hybrid optimization method is then applied to bridge the global optimiza-tion to the search local optimum solution. For validation, the numerical optimization for a bulk ship withtwin-skeg is carried out. The results indicate that the wave-making resistance decreases significantly andthe total resistance increases with a more practical ship hull's fore body,which proves the feasibility andits broad application prospects in the field of hull form design and the automatic optimization of ship hull'shydrodynamic performance using CFD technology.
