In the contact method tin is deposited from a solution of its ions by means of the current generated by connecting two dissimilar metals, one of which is capable of dissolving in the solution. Contact between the two metals may be made in the solution itself or externally by means of a wire. The process may be operated in acid or alkaline solution, the solution of most practical importance up to the present being the alkaline stannate solution using an aluminium contact.
