A breeding problem in the ewe associated almost ex clusively with pastures of Dwalganup strain of early subter ranean clover is descr. Rams do not show clinical abnormali ties. The manifestations in the ewe are infertility, a mater nal dystoria involving the death of the full term fetus, and prolapse of the inverted uterus which may affect unbred ewes. Castrated [male] [male] sometimes show lactation and squa- mous metaplasia in the secondary sex organs. A cystic endo- metrium results in guinea-pigs subsisting for a period of sev eral weeks on the green subterranean clover. The evidence supports the presence in the clover of an estrogenic-like sub stance or a substance which stimulates natural estrogen pro duction in the body. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: 7P. R. Frey
