LiNbO3and LiNbO3:Mg show a broad luminescence band at about 450 nm. The intensity varies with Mg-concentration, stoichiometry and temperature. There is a step-like dependence of the luminescence intensity on Mg-concentration and stoichiometry. The lifetime of the luminescence in pure LiNbO3is independent of temperature and decreases for Mg-doped LiNbO3with increasing temperature. An acceptor-donator-model is used to interpret the results.
