The studies found that occupant behaviors are highly patterned and that certain patterns are remarkably constant over time within households. However, behavioral patterns vary widely from one household to another. The implications of these findings are significant in determining if estimations of "average" behavior are meaningful in the sense that they represent behavior typical of a population. Discrepancies between actual and reported behavior are examined to determine what kinds of information can reliably be obtained from occupants.
