Silicon doped with group-V donor atoms such as phosphorus is a particularly interesting material system from the point of view of quantum control. Experiments demonstrating coherent optical control of this donor center with THz laser light have recently been demonstrated, and are discussed here. The prospect for achieving quantum control in other silicon-based materials with mid-infrared laser light, such as the silicon-chalcogen donor system, is also explored.
