Temperature and water-tolerance ranges for seed germination were compared in three Clarkia allotetraploid species and their putative diploid progenitors. Seeds were exposed to 14 combinations of temperature (3-25 C) and water potential (0 to -5 bars). Clarkia delicata and C. similis exhibit germination patterns similar to those of their diploid progenitors; C. rhomboidea does not Geographical ranges of Clarkia species correlate well with their germination patterns.
