The meaning of non-reciprocal waves is given. This means the breaking of time-reversal symmetry. Ways of breaking time-reversal symmetry are given and a list of acoustic devices using this phenomenon are listed. The Onsager-Se Casimia principle of microscopic reversibility is introduced followed by the application of Onsager reciprocal relations. The principle of thermal diode, the predecessor of acoustic diode is described. Acoustic diode, an example of broken time reversal, is described in details followed by its applications.
