A study of 300 cases of congenital toxoplasmosis has shown that the most frequent forms of this disease are not the most severe ones. Forms with few symptoms or even latent forms are recognised with increasing frequency. Congenital toxoplasmosis has been found in 5 out of 225 cases of neonatal icterus (2.2 per cent) and in 16 out of 261 cases of isolated hydrocephalus (6.1 per cent). The disease does not often cause epilepsy or isolated neurological disturbances.
