More than 2,600 blood samples from wild birds captured in 4 well-defined study areas throughout Israel were processed in search of arboviruses. Four virus strains were isolated of which 3 were tentatively identified as strains of West Nile virus and 1 as Sindbis virus. This is the 1st report of Sindbis virus isolation from any source in Israel and of West Nile virus from birds in Israel. All 4 isolates were made from bloods of turtle doves, Streptopelia turtur. collected during September 1964, and August, 1965, in the Rubin area in the coastal strip of Israel.
