A method for the synthesis of 3-hydroxy-4,4-difluoropyrrolidines from alpha,alpha-difluoro-beta-bromoketones is described. The reaction involves methylenation of the carbonyl group with tetrahydrothiophenium ylide followed by coupling with primary amines.
