Previous findings by the 2nd and 1st authors (1978) suggested the hypothesis that endorphins might contribute to the mechanism of action of ECT in humans. The present study presents further evidence for endorphin release during ECS and suggests a role for the endorphins in the regulation of respiration and in cardiovascular homeostasis, particularly during stress.(7 ref)(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
