A 2.5-year data set of beach profile was used to examine the spatial distributions of cross-shore sediment transport rates for berm formation and erosion. The seaward distance,, is normalized by the distance of the investigation area, which is from the maximum wave run-up position, the onshore boundary, to the shoreline position at the mean tide level, the offshore boundary. The spatial distribution of the cross-shore sediment transport rate for berm formation was modeled with the offshore wave energy flux, and the distribution for berm erosion was modeled with the berm height. The model was applied for the calculation of a one-month beach profile change. The comparison between the numerical results and the observed data showed that the model well predicts the beach profile changes of the berm formation and erosion in a qualitative sense.
