Hydrogenolysis of the intermediate III gave the desired amino acid ana-log, 2-amino-2-carboxyethanesulfonamide (IV). 2-Amino-2-carboxyethanesulfonamide (IV) is inhibitory toward Escherchia coli 9723 at a level of about 200/ml.; however, it is not reversed by either asparagine or aspartic acid.
