Evaluated the possible relation between the natural history of epilepsy, the neuropsychologic features, and the localization of EEG foci and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) lesions in 34 children (aged 5 mo to 18 yrs) with tuberous sclerosis (TSC). Results indicate that only an articulate and comprehensive approach that takes into account a number of variables, such as the anatomic localization of cortical tubers, the type of epilepsy, and the age at onset of symptoms, can provide a better understanding of learning and behavioral impairment. It is also thought that neurologic and psychiatric outcome in TSC may be related, to a great extent, to the anatomic localization of cortical tubers; therefore, their early detection by MRI may be of great prognostic value mainly in newly diagnosed cases.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
