It has been five years since the first appearance of the previous review mono graph on quark-gluon plasma. In the intervening years much progress has been made in the theoretical investigation of the subject, while incontrovertible evidence for the creation of a thermalized plasma in the laboratory is still elusive. A sig nificant step in connecting theory and experiment has been the development of computer codes that simulate the detailed evolution process in heavy-ion collisions with parton dynamics taken into account. Parton production and equilibration have become important topics of investigation that can shed light on the thermalization process. There have also been notable advances made in areas of more theoretical nature such as lattice gauge theory, high-temperature field theory and chiral phase transition. In phenomenology great strides have been taken toward further under standing of the characteristics of the hadronic signatures, ranging from hard probes of the primordial state to the space-time or strangeness features of the final state. It is therefore opportune at this time to put forth another review monograph that can serve the community with as much usefulness as the first volume has.The reason for including only theoretical papers here is still the same as be fore. If reviews of theoretical ideas and methods are to be useful, it is necessary that sufficient space be available to allow for pedagogical discussions. Conference proceedings that have page limitations are not the proper medium for such reviews, unlike experimental results. Even with a volume of this size, not all interesting development can be accommodated. However, what are included can undoubtedly meet the needs of many who either are currently working in the subject or are beginning to enter into it.
