The complete nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding theSalmonella typhimuriummethyl viologen-resistant protein, SmvA, similar to QacA (resistance to quaternary ammonium ion) ofStaphylococcus aureus, and the surrounding sequences were determined. This indicated that the gene arrangement ofS. typhimuriumis different from that ofEscherichia coliin this region.
