The results show that MAA may be used as a probe to detect NeuAc/NeuGcα3Galß4GlcNAc structures in mixtures of glycosphingolipids separated on artificial surfaces. SNA may be used to detect structures with 6-linked sialic acid, but precautions must be taken to exclude possible cross-binding to sulfatides (4). The method of screening for 3-and 6-linked sialic acids in mixtures of gangliosides described in this report provides a convenient approach for work with limited amounts of material.
