A study of the cyto-arghitectural pattern of the cerebral cortex of Hapale has been made from serial sections of the whole brain. It is summarized in a brain map. The occipital region shows as high a differentiation as is generally found in primates. The striate area, too, shows the same laminar pattern as in higher primates. An acoustic koniocortex on the supratemporal plane can be recognized, but the para-acoustic cortex could not be identified. The somesthetic cortex is poorly differentiated. The precentral motor cortex consists of a motor and premotor area and resembles in its cytoarchitecture the homologous areas in other primates. The fronto-parietal operculum bears 2 distinct areas, the anterior of which appears to be the homologue of Broca''s area in man. The prefrontal region is poorly differentiated. Only a large-celled area on the lateral side and a distinctive orbital formation can be separated from the rest of the frontal cortex. The parietal and temporal regions, too, show less differentiation than higher primates. There is a large posterior and a small anterior area.
