In this paper, weak tilting modules are introduced and investigated. We show that all tilting modules are weak tilting modules, but the converse is not true. We prove that a module is weak tilting if and only if its character module is cotilting. We also discuss the question when a weak tilting module is of finite type. As an application, we characterize when Gorenstein projective modules are Gorenstein flat.
