The finding of a 5-10 times greater exchange of Mg28 in the cortical bone of young rats as compared to old rats supports the evidence that young skeleton is more reactive than old. Stable Mg content of bone increases with age and varies inversely with bone water content. The separation of Mg from Ca and P by cation exchange chromatography is described.
