Since the appearance of the 1998 volume on globalization, Polity has published a series of smallish books by Zygmunt Bauman in which he questions buzzwords of the day. This book adds to the series. Bauman presents an argument which identifies Europe as the best hope for the achievement of the universal ethical community of humanity in the context of processes of globalization that otherwise see others as so many consumers, threats or so much waste.
