A 61-year-old Japanese man was referred to our hospital for the treatment of a giant SCC of the penis. He had first noticed a nodule on the penis about 10 years previously, but had left it untreated. The nodule gradually increased in size, and the rapid growth of the nodule in a year finally forced him to visit his general practitioner. A skin biopsy at the time diagnosed it as SCC.At his presentation to us, physical examination revealed a giant tumour, approximately the size of a fetal head, in the genital region, with accompanying swelling of the bilateral inguinal lymph nodes (Fig. 1a, b). The tumour had a moist, papillomatous surface and an unpleasant odour. Micturition remained intact but the external opening of the urethra could not be recognized. Frequent arterial bleeding from the tumour had resulted in an anaemic appearance of the patientÕs face and nails.
