METHODSIn 2015, Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) and the International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) initiated a collaboration to strengthen the implementation of routine HIV testing through training, mentoring, and continuous quality improvement activities at public sector facilities. 8 Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness HIV testing registers include individual tester's age, sex, citizenship, and testing date. Each testing record includes a government-issued unique identification number that is linkable across visits, which was removed from the data set before analysis. The clinical department where HIV testing occurred is also captured: antenatal care clinic, ED, inpatient ward, pediatric ward, tuberculosis (TB) clinic, sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinic, HIV voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), and other PITC (eg, outpatient clinics). Registers capture whether individuals are tested as part of index testing services and whether individuals that test HIV-positive initiate same-day antiretroviral therapy (ART) per national guidelines. 3 The latter variable was added to the register in September 2018.
