Hydrothermal synthesis of ZnO nanorods from KOH and Zn(NO3)2aqueous solutions was carried out at 673 K and 30 MPa for ca 0.03 s of reaction time with a flow apparatus without organic feed reagents. We examined effects of heat-up order of the starting solutions, concentrations, and flow rate on aspect ratio of ZnO crystals. Synthesized nanorods had an average length of 230 nm and width of 38 nm. The flow-through supercritical water (FT-SCW) method has a large potential for varying crystal morphology through control of nucleation and crystal growth in the heat-up, reaction, and cool-down cycles.
