The results of some investigators show that urine collected from the frog's bladder is never hypertonic to the blood of the same animal. Other investigators find dyes to be concentrated in the frog's kidney. The possibility that the bladder might play some role in the final concentration of the urine led to the following experiments: Confirming Adolph ('27) frogs with tied cloacae placed in tap-water increase in weight and this increase in weight is approximately equal to the accumulation of urine in the bladder. Frogs with tied cloacae and accumulated urine in their bladders will reabsorb this fluid into their tissues when placed in hypertonic salt solution or dry chamber. The intestine was tied off to rule out the possibility of reabsorption by this route. The author concludes that the bladder may act as a source of water supply for the frog and that thus the concentration of the urine as delivered from the kidney may be altered in the bladder. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Author (courtesy Wistar Biol.
