The phonon polariton in the SrTiO 3 crystal having an inversion symmetry has been observed by a new and simple method of the hyper-Raman scattering. The frequencies of the uppermost branch polariton measured as a function of the wavevector k are found to be in reasonable agreement with the theoretically estimated ones.
