A numerical analysis and experimental research have been designed to study the internal flow characteristic of two axial flow fans. The researched fans were used in air conditioner out door unit. Both fans have the same outside diameter and nearly the same blade profile. The difference between the studied fans was only on the suction sides of blades; the dimples were carving on the suction sides of blades of one fan. Numerical simulation was based on Navier-Stokes equations coupled withκ-eturbulence model. Numerical results showed that, the aerodynamic characteristic and static pressure of the fan was not improved by carving dimples on the suction sides of blades. The local static pressure of the dimple position was improved, and the static pressure at the center of the dimples was higher than that of the boundary of dimples. The dimples on the suction sides of blades increased the noise of lower volume flow rate condition, and it had no influence to the aerodynamic noise of large volume flow rate condition.
