Carrier Resolution Multiple Access (CRMA) is introduced as an approach for channel access in wireless local area networks with radios endowed with self-interference cancellation (SIC). CRMA operates in a single channel and consists of using SIC to try to allow one of multiple concurrent transmissions to succeed, rather than having all colliding transmissions fail. As a result, most channel-contention rounds result in successful collision-free transmissions. The throughput of CRMA is analyzed and compared with the throughput of CSMA, CSMA/CA, and CSMA/CD when priority acknowledgments are used. This analysis shows that CRMA can provide much better throughput than the other approaches thanks to the use of SIC.
