The object of this paper is to give a systematic treatment of permutation polynomials (over a finite fieldFq) of the formxrf(xq−1)/d). In particular, a criterion is obtained for such a polynomial to be a permutation polynomial and it is proved that all such permutation polynomials form a group isomorphic to a generalized wreath product of certain abelian groups.
