METHODSFertile eggs of mixed breeds, mostly Orpington, were obtained from a local hatchery. After allowing for temperature equilibration, each egg was weighed and injected with 0.2 ml of solution containing 25 pc of Ca 45 as the chloride; the specific activity was 12.97 &mg of calcium. The mean weight for the eggs used was 61.8 & 3.5 grams. Injection was made through the small end of the egg into the dense albumen using a o. 5-ml tuberculin syringe, mounted in a Krogh-Keys pipetter, equipped with a $-inch 27 gauge needle. In
