The Future Time Perspective Scale (Carstensen & Lang, 1996) measures respondents' perceptions of their remaining time in life, ie, their future time perspective (FTP). This instrument consists of 10 items, each rated on a seven-point Likert-type scale. In a study with German adults (aged 20 to 90 years), reliability analysis of a German translation of the Future Time Perspective Scale yielded a Cronbach's alpha of. 92 (Lang & Carstensen, 2002). In that study, the scale was transformed into T scores, with values above 50 indicating a more open-ended time perspective and values below 50 indicating a more limited time perspective.
