To further characterize the functional properties of low-densityeosinophils, we isolated purified populations of hypodense eosinophils from the peripheral blood of patients with asthma and compared their generation of superoxide (02) with other granulocyte populations from the same patients and control subjects. For a number of reasons, we elected to measure the generation of oxidative products as a marker of eosinophil function.
