Most bicycle navigation applications recommend routes based on the shortest route without considering environmental conditions that might be relevant to cyclists. This study aimed to develop a bicycle navigation application that recommends routes based on cycling environment data collected from bicycles. We implemented a prototype mechanism for measuring and analyzing the cycling environment data. The environmental conditions we focused on were sunlight conditions and irregularities on the road, and we measured data from smartphone sensors. Measured data are transmitted to a server for analysis as to whether a cycling location is in the sun or shade, and whether there are any road irregularities. In the process of determining the sunlight conditions, the time-series data of the illuminance are normalized and then a thresholding value is applied.
