Sunlight exposure is a hazard with carcinogenic potential shared by peoples in all parts of the world. The end result of the form of skin cancer varies gieatly in different populations and geographic areas. This is because sunlight is modified in various ways before it reaches skin cells. Oblique pathways of sunlight tlirough tlie atmosphere in the far north and south latitudes reduces the solar intensity to ineffective levels for carcinogenesis. Elsev^here the abundant melanin in darkskinned races reduces the hazard oi sunlight by filtration. On the other hand, skin cancer is the most frequently occurring type of cancer in North America and sunlight is the major cause. Caucasian populations elsewliere have a similar susceptibility.!
