The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) are conducting a three-year nationwide study of truck crashes. The Large Truck Crash Causation Study (LTCCS) will determine contributing factors to fatal and serious injury truck crashes, allowing FMCSA to implement effective crash countermeasures. This paper presents the background to the study, the study approaches, a description of the study and its implementation.
