Invited by Tsinghua University and Sino-French Educational Foundation,French mathematician J.Hadamard gave lectures in China from March to June in 1936,which made a profound impact on the development of mathematics in China,especially on the development of partial differential equations.During his visit to China,there were many contacts between him and the Chinese mathematics community,and he was warmly greeted by Chinese scholars.He formed ties of friendship with the Chinese people.Based on historical documents,this article introduces J.Hadamard's visit to China in detail,such as the reasons for his visit,the arrangements of the visit,and the lectures and activities in Peking.Meanwhile,the article analyses the impact that J.Hadamard's visit made on the development of mathematics in China.
