Using three waves of longitudinal data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study of 2011, 2013, and 2015, this study investigates the correlation between the New Rural Social Pension Insurance (NRSPI) scheme and subjective well-being (SWB) among rural middle-aged and older adults in China. Panel data analysis methods—the dynamic fixed effectsmodel and the lagged variable model—are used to address the initial value, heterogeneity, and reverse causal problems. The results suggest that, in general, a positive relationship remains between the NRSPI scheme and SWB. The positive effects of the NRSPI scheme differ by sex, age, migrant status, household income, and regional grouping.
