Dr Rose is an English psychiatrist who has been actively interested in faith healing for twenty years. He tells us that he set out to ascertain the truth about faith healing because if it is a genuine phenomenon it should be brought into line with the main body of medical knowledge: ’a validated faith-healing service could mean the saving of millions of pounds yearly on drugs and hospitalization.’ On the other hand, if it is not then the efforts of faith healers are at best a waste of time and at worst a conscious or unconscious deception which might influence the sick to neglect orthodox medical treatment.
