Recently within the cardiac electrophysiology community, there has been significantly more thorough and thoughtful consideration for the characteristics of various experimental models, an important service to enhanced rigor and reproducibility. Although there has essentially always been an appreciation for species-level differences, we recently highlighted the variability in (and often lack of consideration for) a wide range of experimental model details, including perfusate composition, temperature, pH, weight, animal strain, among other factors (1). In particular, age and sex are two factors that are now widely appreciated to be critical for both experimental investigation and potential therapies and treatment.
