A new computing model, called the Internet of Things (IoT), is surfacing and has grasped attention in various researches and industries in the past few years. The cloud-based applications where delays and jitters cannot be tolerated and need real-time decisions. For such applications, edge computing or fog computing plays a critical role by providing cloud-applications near the end-devices. With the increasing number of entities such as fog, security challenges also increases. In this work, we study different authentication challenges faced by a fog computing enabled IoT network. We analyze some of the selected authentication schemes like Zero-knowledge based Authentication protocol for entity authentication and HMAC authentication for message authentication. Performance results are compared for both types of protocols.
