Azole antifungal compounds act by inhibition of sterol 14a-demethylase, a cytochrome P-450 involved in ergosterol biosynthesis [11. Their use in agriculture is widespread and in clinical application they are a significant therapeutic development [Z]. However, many of the details of azole tolerance and resistance are still unclear.
