An absorptive fungal strain for uranium adsorption which is named Q5, was isolated from the drainage of a uranium mine in South China. The morphological, physiological and phylogenetic characterizations of the strain Q5 were investigated. The results showed that, the strain Q5 identified asPenicillium funiculosum(99 % similarity in gene sequence). Furthermore, the adsorption performance ofP. funiculosumwas greatly improved by the mutational method that combined hydroxylamine hydrochloride and UV light. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of the mutatedP. funiculosumfor U(VI) was obviously better than the non-mutational one at pH 2.0–9.0.
