The anaphase promoting complex (APC) targets proteins for degradation to promote progression through the cell cycle. Here we show that Clb5, an APC(Cdc20) substrate, is degraded when the spindle checkpoint is active, while other APC(Cdc20) substrates are stabilized, Suggesting that APC(Cdc20) inhibition by the spindle checkpoint is substrate specific.
