IN her recent book, "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword", Dr. Benedict deals with the Japanese along lines similar to, if not as clearly defined as, those in her earlier "Patterns of Culture". To quote Prof. Franz Boas, she "is concerned rather with the discovery of fundamental attitudes than with the functional relations of every cultural item".
