Accelerated biological aging, such as early onset of pubertal development, is a phenomenon that presents in children exposed to early life adversity, especially child maltreatment (CM). 1 Recently, two studies2, 3 used DNA methylation-based age (mAge) and reported that age acceleration was correlated with the number of exposures to maltreatment.(b) Comparison of the PedBE age acceleration between child maltreatment (CM) and healthy control (HC) children (* t-test: P < 0.005). gl Our finding was the first to report PedBE age acceleration in confirmed cases of CM by means other than self-report in the general population. Genomic DNA (500 ng) was processed for the Illumina MethylationEPIC array (see Appendix S1). 7 Three types of mAge-prediction methods (Pediatric-Buccal-Epigenetic clock [PedBE], 5 DNAmAgeSkinBloodClock [SkinBlood], 8 and the Horvath multi-tissue clock4) were employed.[Extracted from the article]Copyright of Psychiatry & Clinical Neurosciences is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
