Hourly counts of mitotically dividing hemocytes in groups of 5th-instar O. fasciatus (Dallas) were made for each of the 8 days spent in the stadium by the species. Mitotic activity varied greatly, sometimes even in groups of the same age, but a fairly distinct intrastadial pattern was found. The activity was very low during most of the 1st postmolt day, began to rise at about the 23rd postmolt hour, reached its peak (4.06%) in the 30-hr. group, remained relatively high until about the 74th hr., then steadily declined during the remainder of the stadium.
