Several aspecls of our present knowledge on (A) the relations of blood sugar to brain waves and on (B) the occurrence of epileptic attacks at different blood sugar levels are summarized first with reference to the literature.A case report on a child with diabetes and epilepsy is presented next. Clinical observations on this patient, which were published earlier, are integrated herein with the pathological findings. The role played by exogenous hyperinsulinism in bringing about epilepsy is reemphasized. The results of profile studies carried out during several 24,hour periods on the case reported are then given, in conjunction with a summary of statistical analyses. These results reveal a significant positive correlation between the electroencephalographic 21/2 per second wave and spike on one hand and the blood sugar level on the other. It is also noted, that whereas hypoglycemia subsequent to insulin administration may give rise to epilepsy by brain damage, the mechanism which precipitates seizures in such a damaged brain is neither hypoglycemia nor hyperglycemia, per se.
