A theoretical relationship between the magnetic viscosity parameter Sv and coercive force Hc has been obtained, which gives a very good explanation of the Barbier plot. Magnetic viscosity coefficients S of several magnetic recording media have been measured. The results show that S- chi irrSv and chi irr may be represented approximately by a Gaussian function.
