An outbreak of influenza in 2 ferret colonies at a time when there were many localized outbreaks of human influenza is described. Clinical symptoms included a muco-serous nasal discharge, inflammation of the conjunctiva, sneezing, lethergy, and temperatures up to 105[degree]F. The disease ran its course in individuals in about 7 days. Hemagglutination tests of convalescent sera seemed to indicate that the strain of influenza A virus which occurred in the human population at the time was the causal organism. It appeared probable that the source of the infection was the animal attendants who were infected at the same time.
